Chick Durrett-Smith studied at the University of Montevallo in Alabama where she earned a BFA in Theatre. She focused on Directing, Acting, Children’s Theatre, and Musical Theatre. After graduation, she moved to Chattanooga, TN to continue her studies at the Dance Theatre Workshop. She met and married her husband, Dennis, while there. They moved to Atlanta in June 1980 and performed with City Center Dance Theatre, Atlanta Contemporary Dance Company and the Alliance Theatre Company. In 1985 she made a commitment to serve the Lord with her gifts. Fishworks came into being in 1988 and has provided wonderful opportunities for service for almost 35 years!

Dennis Durrett-Smith

Dennis Durrett-Smith grew up in Memphis, Tennessee where he began music studies at an early age, playing piano and drums. He has been a professional drummer since he was 13 years old. He studied music theory and percussion at the University of Memphis (formerly Memphis State University) and played with show bands for several years. He decided to perform in dance and musical theatre which took him to Chattanooga, where he met his wife, Chick. Dennis has served on church staffs directing youth music and drama. After these many years of playing music and performing with Fishworks, Dennis is now finishing his music degree at Kennesaw State University. He also has written scripts for Fishworks and Theatre du Reve summer camps.

Cara Hendsbee

Cara Hendsbee

Cara Hendsbee is an Atlanta-based actress who performs plays and one woman shows on theatrical, church, and school stages across the Southeast. Light Has Come, Cara’s third one woman show, shares the story of the Bible in four parts – Creation, Fall, Redemption, and Glorification, drawing from 20 books of the Bible. Cara explores themes of light and darkness, dust and divinity, and shame and honor in this dynamic, hope-filled drama. Cara sees the Bible as a Living book that transforms lives, and she rejoices at every chance she gets to share its stories with others. Cara thanks Chick Durrett-Smith for her kindness and encouragement as an acting mentor and friend!

Cara has taken scripture and created 20-30 minute performances of “Ecclesiastes” and “Light Has Come”. Cara is prepared to perform locally or regionally. She is available through Fishworks, Inc.

Ecclesiastes: Ecclesiastes is a psychological drama that wrestles with the gritty reality of humanity. Using Scripture exclusively, Cara brings the ancient Biblical author’s story to life in this poignant 20 minute one woman show, searching desperately for hope amidst the chaos in her mind.

Light Has Come: Light Has Come shares the story of the Bible in four parts – Creation, Fall, Redemption, and Glorification – drawing from 20 books of the Bible. Cara intertwines various genres found in Scripture into her show, including narrative, poetry, letters, prophecy, and even chronology. Cara Ann explores themes of light and darkness, dust and divinity, and shame and honor in this 30 minute dynamic, hope-filled drama.

Rebekah’s passion is to bring hope and dignity through dance. From sitting mesmerized by the Nutcracker as a toddler to training at the Atlanta Ballet Centre for Dance Education she has experienced the power, freedom, and joy in using dance to communicate.

Rebekah has appeared with companies such as The The Proia Dance Project, Southern Arc, and the Atlanta Opera. She’s also been a guest artist with Telluride Dance Academy and Sawnee Ballet Theatre. Some of her favorite roles include Swanhilda in Coppelia with Ballet Southeast and the Faun Couple in Alexandre Proia’s Four Seasons with Georgia Ballet. Her favorite projects include, the opener for Passion 2014, music videos for Victoria Canal and Amy Ray, the White Umbrella short film, as well as our annual stage production of Sterling’s Path, a multimedia fairytale of hope.

Rebekah loves using dance to serve internationally and has travelled to countries such as Panama, Cuba, and the Netherlands to perform and conduct workshops. In 2018, she curated the Uncaged Community Dance Festival where Atlanta’s leading dance companies converged for a week of collaboration. Rebekah also loves mentoring the next generation through teaching; she was a faculty member at the Atlanta Ballet Centre for Dance Education for nine years and is currently a guest teacher around the US.

Rebekah holds a BA in Communications from Thomas Edison State University. When she’s not in the studio, Rebekah enjoys spending time with her family, reading, paddleboarding and pickle ball, or winding down with hand-embroidery.
